It’s mid-August and that marks our 1-year anniversary of starting operations! We just wanted to take a minute to reflect on the last year and tell you a little about our plans for the next one!
This year has been a wild ride (pun intended) and we want to thank everyone who has reached out to us – even if it was just for info or a quote – thank you so much for thinking of us! A huge thank you to the special group of zoo professionals who entrusted us with your animals…we hope you had a good experience, and we are excited to assist you again!
We’ve travelled over 20,000 miles in the last year and have gotten to see some amazing institutions, beautiful scenery, and a broad array of America’s finest truck stops, rest areas, and fast food establishments. We’ve also gotten lots of great experience with our passengers (big cats down to tiny baby birds) and further developed our best practices.
The administrative learning curve has also been…eye opening. Did you know that business taxes are due March 15th, not April 15th? Well we certainly do now 😊 The number of surprises that come along when running a small business really can’t be overstated. Fortunately, we have some fantastic mentors and zoo community members to guide us along the way! Our deepest thanks to our SCORE Akron mentor Madhu Dewan and advisors Doug Piekarz, Patricia Waickman, Eric Albers, Deniele Brown, Samantha Aemmer-Schneider, Kayla White, and all of our friends and family who have encouraged, supported, guided, and assisted with every big and little thing along the way.
