Our History

Wild Ride Animal Transport LLC was born out of a need for better and safer animal transport options for zoological institutions. With airlines stepping back from specialty cargo and only a small cadre of ground shippers available across the country, shipments were already getting tough to pull off. Add in the global pandemic and the options became fewer still.

After hearing about the increasing difficulty of shipping animals from colleagues across the country and seeing the dangerous situations that resulted from cancelled flights and missed connections (animals sitting on the tarmac for hours without proper care or attention), Dr. Rizzo and her husband started to look for ways to make the situation better. After a lot of research and feedback from the zoo community, Wild Ride Animal Transport LLC was created with the idea that animals should have the same professional care in transit as they do at their sending and receiving institutions.

Our goal is to raise the standard for animal transports across the board and establish a new expectation of health, safety, and comfort in transit.

Here’s how we’re raising the bar:

• Zoo Veterinarian owned & operated
• State of the art VetGuardian monitoring equipment that allows continuous vital signs and video monitoring – without even touching the animal!
• Climate controlled cargo area with bidirectional exhaust fans to keep fresh air circulating constantly
• Dual mode lighting to allow dimming for animal comfort
• Two crew-members (including at least one veterinary medical provider) for safety
• Ability to create bio-secure cargo space
• Hosted forum to help the zoo community move animals more easily and efficiently by coordinating with one another
• Fully insured, licensed, and registered by DOT, FMCSA, USDA, DEA, PUCO, etc.
